13 May 2015 | British and Irish Association of Zoos and Aquariums News Release
Animals across the country are going wild about the launch of this year’s Love Your Zoo week.
The event which was launched by the British and Irish Association of Zoos and Aquariums (BIAZA) in 2011 is aimed at encouraging people to visit their local BIAZA zoos, aquariums and wildlife centres, not only to have a fun day out, but to learn just how much they do for conservation, education and research.
From Saturday, May 23 to Saturday, May 30, more than 50 BIAZA zoos and aquariums from across the UK and Ireland will be hosting a week of fun activities from heart-themed craft activities to talks on how zoos care for their animals and getting visitors to help prepare food and enrichment treats.
Dr Kirsten Pullen, Chief Executive Officer at BIAZA, said: “Love Your Zoo week is not only great fun for all the family, but a wonderful opportunity for our member zoos and aquariums to highlight the vital work they carry out for wildlife on a daily basis. BIAZA zoos contribute more than £10 million to field conservation every year, as well as carrying out important research and educating zoo visitors about the importance of protecting the natural world.”
Activities throughout the week include face-painting, Love Your Zoo trails, encounters with your favourite animals, taking a look behind the scenes and much more.
